About Me

Have you ever had that moment or flash where everything in front of you changed in an instant?

I definitely have…

I had the amazing privilege of receiving a volleyball scholarship to play in college which was one of the best times of my life. In 2007 I was working with our family businesses which is where our grand idea of Business Beware came to life. Talk about a roller coaster ride going from not knowing how to create a website to having a TV show based around the idea.

Creating and working on BB opened up so many doors for me and even introduced me to some amazing people I never would have met if it wasn’t for taking that road. It wasn’t easy and it sure wasn’t pretty creating something from scratch but I believe you have to do many things you don’t like to get to where you want to be. I never knew it would turn into what it did and get the chance to be featured in things like Entrepreneur Magazine, BusinessWeek, Mashable, etc. The drive I had with it were the stories that I heard and even what I learned from those who have been running a business longer than I’ve even been alive.

Doors were even opened to create a reality TV show where our family went in to help struggling family businesses. It moved so fast that it was almost too cool and way too much fun.

That roller coaster went faster in the summer of 2012 and then it went off track on July 21, 2012. My middle sister Rachel, was killed in a motorcycle accident. My world was completely changed in an instant.

So many things changed after that moment from business, drive, attitude and most of all the course that I was once on. I use to educate and share stories about family businesses struggling and now I’m sharing of how to survive as a family business who experiences a tragedy. I’ve always been open about sharing the raw side of business and what it truly takes to make it work but now I am also opening up about how my life has been changed with losing my sister. You may be thinking like me – “why do bad things happen to good people?” Sometimes it’s through the trials and tragedies that you learn exactly who you are and where you’re being led to something you never thought was possible. For me, that was creating and designing furniture that was all based off of a dream a few years before my life changed.

To sum it up, this is where I share everything from business to struggles I deal with in life because I know that there is at least one person out there that will stumble across it and realize it’s exactly what they needed to hear in that moment.

Keep the faith,
-Ashley
