For a long time I truly hated running, wait I actually despised it even in all the sports I did. Okay let me clarify that, I didn’t like LONG distance running but did enjoy the sprinting. Let’s put it this way that when my basketball coach in highschool told me I had to choose a fall sport to do to keep in shape I nixed soccer and cross country because they both involved ALOT of running. So I went with volleyball. I’ve had numerous friends that got involved with running marathons, triathlons and even some that did an IronMan. They … Continue reading
It’s no surprise that your feet take a beating from a long day at work, sports and in my case at the moment…training for a half marathon. I recently hurt my foot running 14 miles one morning. All was good until mile 10 and all of the sudden it felt like my right foot was a rubber band on the inside (yes, hard to explain but that is what it felt and sounded like). Still not sure what it was that I did since I didn’t step weird or hit a pothole etc. The only thing I can think was … Continue reading
I’ve been a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds for a long time (for many reasons…) but I just came across this video today that made me like him even more. He talks about “endurance” and what motivates him to train on and off the screen. In the video he talks about the NYC Marathon he ran a few years ago and how he wasn’t a true runner. He admits to running it slow but also the fact that he was able to run 26 miles.
I always thought kickboxing was one cool way to exercise but always I played other sports and pursed other workout routines. In college I took some kickboxing classes and immediately realized just how awesome it made me feel, the muscles that I worked and just how empowered I felt (while also listening to some kick butt music). I recently bought a kickboxing bag that I could use whenever I wanted to rather than having to make it to a class or to the gym. Kickboxing is one of those amazing cardio workouts that helps build your core, arms and balance/coordination. Not … Continue reading
Part of me wonders what I have gotten myself into when I say the words “I am running a half marathon this fall.” Now some may read this and go you’re only doing a half what’s the big deal? I’ve always been an athlete and not a “true runner.” I loved sprinting but hated long distance (actually I HATED long distance). Just mentally it would get to me because I could easily stop running after 5 miles and say “well that’s good enough.” I could play a sport for hours and not think twice about it because my mindset was … Continue reading
